  Institute of Atomic Energy POLATOM is engaged in scientific research, development and applied studies in physics and technology of nuclear reactors, condensed matter physics and material engineering, application of nuclear techniques in environment and health protection, ecology, nuclear safety, health physics, and radioactive wastew and nuclear spent fuel management. Institute operates the only Polish research nuclear reactor MARIA that employed in production of radioactive, isotopes, modification of materials with nuclear radiation and studies with neutron beams.
 
  The main subjects:
  1. Safe operation and efficient application of nuclear research reactor MARIA;

  2. Nuclear safety and ionization radiation protection;

  3. Construction and decommissioning of nuclear facilities;

  4. Radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel management;

  5. Engineering of nuclear and common materials;

  6. Management of hazards due to emergencies in conventional and nuclear indusstry;

  7. Nuclear techniques in health and environment protection;
