| Organizational dependence in the structure of IAE. | ||||||||||||||
| The Director of IAE is responsible for the operation of the reactor MARIA. On behalf of the Director the operation and application of the reactor is directed by the Deputy Director for Reactors. All departments performing duties associated with operation of the reactor report to the Deputy Director for Reactors. The workers employed in reactor operation, radiation protection and emergency management have according to the Atomic Law Bill appropriate training and qualifications confirmed by suitable license. The list of such posts has been given by the Act of Atomic Law and applicable Government Council Decision and supplemented by the regulations issued by the IAE Director. The licenses are issued by the President of National Atomic Energy Agency on the basis of results of the exam. The IAE Commission for Nuclear Safety is an advisory board to the Director in all issues connected to the safety of nuclear facilities of the institute. The fulfillment of safe operation and application of nuclear facilities is supervised in the institute by following services: |

The research carried out with application of the reactor MARIA is performed by following IAE departments: |

| Department of the Nuclear Methods in Condensed Matter Physics, comprising the Regional Laboratory for Neutronography; | ||||||||||||||
| Centre of Excellence MANHAZ, performing safety analyses of the reactor and spent fuel storages; | ||||||||||||||
| Department of Nuclear Energy, performing studies on the spent fuel; | ||||||||||||||
| Radiation Protection Measurements Laboratory, developing methods and instruments for measurements of nuclear radiation; | ||||||||||||||
| Materials Research Laboratory, performing tests of nuclear materials; | ||||||||||||||
| Radioactive Waste Management Plant, dealing with radioactive waste management in Poland and especially with radioactive waste due to the operation of the reactor MARIA. | ||||||||||||||
The reactor MARIA is operated according to the license issued by President of National Atomic Energy Agency. The current license expires on March, 2009. The operation of the reactor is performed according to annual schedules. In 2006 reactor was operated for 4000 hours during 40 week cycles. |
