| Reactor MARIA is a nuclear facility and its operation fulfills the requirements of the Act of Atomic Law. The reactor design, its operation and application as well as the personnel qualifications conform the requirements of nuclear safety and radiation protection as defined by the Atomic Law and pertinent Regulations of the Council of Ministers. According to the Atomic Law the President of National Atomic Energy Agency supervises and regulates all the measures undertaken in the institute to provide required level of nuclear safety and radiation protection. The Department of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety of the National Atomic Energy Agency and the Examination Board by the Agency’s President are responsible for checking the necessary skills of the workers dealing with nuclear and radiation safety before issuing the job licenses. |

| To obtain the Agency’s President license for starting and operation of the nuclear reactor the institute presents the Safety Report, which contains the technical description of the facility and the results of safety analyses, operation procedures and planned use of the reactor. The Safety Report matches the Atomic Law requirements and recommendations of International Atomic Energy Agency. The first tenet of the design, construction and operation of the reactor MARIA is safety of the people living in the neighborhood of Świerk, the employees of Świerk centre and the reactor personnel. |
